European Masters Swimming Championships
Ten of Stowmarket’s finest swimmers competed at the European Masters Swimming Championships held at the Olympic Pool, London. For some of the swimmers it was their first chance to race in a 50 metre pool. Sue Holdich was Stowmarket’s most successful swimmer storming to 7th place in the 70-74 years 100m front crawl, 8th in her 50m breaststroke and 10th in the 50m front crawl. Husband and wife duo Peter and Kim Lynch put in three superb performances each with Kim coming 12th in the 55-59 years 100m, 19thin the 200m front crawl and 22nd in the 50m front crawl whilst Peter was 87th in the 50-54 years breaststroke, 119th in the 100m front crawl and 137th in the 50m front crawl. Brothers David and Tom Harrison both competed in the 30-34 years 50m breast with David finishing in 21st place and Tom swimming in his first competition for three years came 87th.
Andy Wright and Sue Penman both struggled to get going in their events with Wright coming 27th in the 55-59 years 200m backstroke and 40th in the 400m front crawl and Penman 81st in the 50-54 years 400m front crawl. On a positive note Alison Jeffries put in some impressive times in her 25-29 years 50m front crawl ( 99th ), 50m butterfly ( 106th ) and 100m front crawl ( 115th ). Shaun, Tom and David Harrison together with Ollie Bumstead powered to overall 28th place and 7th placed British team in the 4 x 50m 120-159 years relay.
All of the Stowmarket Masters swimmers enjoyed this event, it was an experience of a lifetime  being held in London.
